A Grand Opening and A Season Opener

May 1, 2024 | City Island News

The last weekend of April saw a grand opening for a new business on City Island, and the season opening for a longtime business.

On Saturday, April 27, The Pearl, the Bronx’s neighborhood movement studio, opened at 319 City Island Avenue, City Island, NY.  View some scenes from the open house that Saturday.  (Owner Wendy Yang even had a visit from Assembly Member Michael Benedetto!)  Another relatively new City Island business, City Island Pizza Company (273 City Island Avenue, City Island, NY) provided food for the opening day reception! The Pearl features classes in pilates, yoga, pre- and post-natal, meditation, dance and kids movement.  Memberships are available; there are also “drop in” class rates. Learn more on The Pearl’s website.

The following day, Sunday, April 28, the City Island Nautical Museum (190 Fordham Street, City Island, NY) opened for the season, featuring three new exhibits:  “Sailmakers of City Island,” “Hart Island History,” and “Navigation and Hell Gate Pilots.” News 12 The Bronx joined the festivities featuring those new exhibits and interviewing Board Members Barbara Dolensek (Vice President) and Lauren Nye (Secretary).  Here’s a link to the News 12 The Bronx feature, and a look at a Facebook live visit by the City Island Chamber of Commerce on that Sunday. The City Island Pizza Company (273 City Island Avenue, City Island, NY) sent food as well to the Museum’s opening day ~ and City Island photographer Ron Terner (of Focal Point Gallery, 321 City Island Avenue, City Island, NY) was on hand to document the day with his first-rate photos. The museum will be open through spring and summer on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 PM.
