Bronx Borough President Celebrates City Island’s ‘Best of the Bronx’ Winners

Mar 7, 2024 | Best of the Bronx

At a February 29 reception hosted by the City Island Chamber of Commerce, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson presented citations to nine City Island businesses who were winners in 16 categories as “Best of the Bronx,” a program of Ponce Bank promoted by Schneps Media (publisher of The Bronx Times, Bronx Times Reporter, and other local outlets). Chamber President Paul Klein offered special recognition plaques to all winners as well during that reception which was held at The Artist (Starving Artist) (249 City Island Avenue, City Island, NY), winner of “Best Concert Venue.”

“We are pleased to recognize our small businesses for your commitment and services to our City Island community, the Bronx and beyond,” Bronx Borough President Gibson said.  “Our small businesses are the fabric of our Borough.”

Nominated in 27 categories for the “Best of the Bronx,” City Island Chamber of Commerce member businesses captured 16 wins. The “Best of The Bronx”  accepts nominations from January to mid-April each year on their website (https://bestof.bxtimes.com/nominations/).  The top nominees then advance to an online ballot which last year opened for voting in mid-April and extended through end of August.  Voting takes place online via that same website; each person is allowed one vote per person per day for each category. Once the voting ends, results are added up and double-checked for fraudulent voting or obvious abuse (those votes are then removed) by the campaign’s organizers.  After this, the results are added up again. According to the campaign’s website, a third-party administrator runs the “Best of The Bronx” voting pages.

The City Island Chamber of Commerce organized a marketing campaign not only to promote the nomination of Chamber businesses, but also to use the opportunity to tell the stories of those businesses and their nominations on the Chamber website and social media.
