City Island’s The Artist (Starving Artist) has become well known for its musical performances ~ everything from opera nights to singer songwriters, from blues to jazz to rock and everything in between. In fact, the venue is nominated in the “Best of the Bronx” for “Best Concert Venue.”
With its motto ~ “It’s All About the Show” ~ The Artist, says owner Elliott Glick, has also featured theatre and comedy performances, among others. On Saturday, July 15, The Artist embraced another aspect of “show” with tattoo artist Prospect (from the Bronx’s Tattoo Seen) “taking the stage.” The tattoo “flash sheets” featured nautical and City Island specific tattoo offerings; there was even a tattoo featuring Elliott Glick’s signature drawing of himself.
Islanders came by for tattoos, including family members from A Taste of Italy. There were also games and light fare to enjoy.
The owner’s daughter, Hannah Glick, organized the afternoon event. Island resident, Tony Romel, President of Tattoo Society Magazine, also stopped by, along with Ron Terner of Focal Point Gallery who documented the occasion in photographs (here is a link to Ron’s photos with some also featured at the end of this post), as well as Islander (and Hannah’s bestie and roommate) Jennifer Fajardo.
Elliott Glick noted that his daughter Hannah will be organizing another tattoo “popup” at The Artist with Prospect, likely in the fall.
